I Trust Only You
A downloadable game
I have tried everything I could. I know this, no matter how much I forget. I do not have much left, so here are all the things I know to be true.
One: you exist, you are real, and so was the love I had for you.
Two: there are beings in this world and the next that wish to end all of us.
Three: we can’t stop them, but we can fight them.
Four: It is worth it.
Yours, Sybil Sanome
I Trust Only You is a game about a line of occult investigators and scholars passing down the means of fighting back against the forces that seek to destroy them and all they hold dear. It is based on three founding principles:
Journaling
This game is about keeping a diary as a character that exists within a fictional world. You will imagine a character and narrate their thoughts, aspirations and actions by writing entries into the journal. To play this game, you must first acquire a blank journal to write in, as well as all the miscellaneous stationery one needs to write and sketch in a book.
Deck Building
Along with the journal, this game is played with a deck of cards, which will help guide the players’ writing thanks to the Oracle, a set of tables that will be left somewhere convenient within the journal and help with interpreting the cards. This deck will start with 27 cards and diminish over the course of play, but players will be able to add to it. They should too, because if it ever runs out, the game will end.
Mail It Forward
These entries and cards are not just for yourself. The deck and journal are meant to be sent to someone else once your character meets their end: pass it off, likely through mail, to a trusted acquaintance when they feel the end is coming for them, hoping their work outlives them. The game goes on as it is passed down from player to player, until the end of the world, or perhaps, if we’re lucky, until their research allows them to make all of us a little safer.
